A total of 2.78 billion kilowatt-hours of power generated by China's wind farms was wasted in the first half of 2010, because this amount of power cannot be connected to the grid, the Beijing Times reported, citing a report issued Monday by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
China increased its total wind power capacity to 41.8 gigawatts (GW) in 2010, up by 16GW, or 62 percent, from the previous year, according to statistics from the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association.
However, compared to building farm projects, connecting farms to the power grid is more time-consuming and more complex.
The commission said greater coordination is needed between building wind farm projects and building the power grid in the future.
