Beijing: The changes in China over the last past 60 years have been “enormous”, Ambassador Marjan Cencen of Slovenia said Wednesday. Speaking in an exclusive interview with chinadaily.com.cn, Ambassador Cencen said China has become one of the most important countries on the world stage. “Everybody feels the developments have moved to East Asia, and China is part of it. More people understand these huge changes, and this would help them cope with future development of our planet,” he said. Serving in China for nine years has given Ambassador Cencen a unique perspective on China’s development. “One needs a lot of energy, a lot of good organizational skills and leadership to move a small country in the direction, and China is the largest country by population,” he observed. “From professional point of view, working here is a great experience for me.” “I’m sure China will do well in the future, and I wish the 60th anniversary will be very successful,” Cencen said. “I [hope] China remains stable, because this is for the benefit for all the human kind.” Ambassador Cencen was awarded the title of Ambassador of International Friendship by the Organizing Committee of China International Friendship and Culture Festival in January 2009. He has been the Slovenian Ambassador to China since 2005, and he will finish his term at the end of July. He previously worked as Counselor and deputy head of mission for the Embassy of Slovenia to China from 1995 to 2000. He is now married with two daughters.
