Aniston: wedding rumor

Aniston: wedding rumor

Jennifer Aniston may have Friends with Money, but they're not throwing her a multimillion-dollar wedding anytime soon.

In yet another attempt to squelch the weeks-old rumor that Oprah Winfrey is planning an $8 million knot-tying gala for Aniston and boyfriend Vince Vaughn, the Friends alumna decided to check in with the alleged wedding coordinator herself, calling into The Oprah Winfrey Show Monday to chat about the mythical nuptials.

"The rumors are so unbelievable," Aniston said over the phone, while Winfrey stood next to a large picture of the 37-year-old actress. "For us, I guess, at a certain point, you have no other choice but to think it's funny."

At this point, we're not sure which is funnier--the fact that the buzzed-about "wedding of the century" plans have included everything from a performance by master cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the ceremony to a million-dollar gift from Winfrey (making it a $9 million affair), or that the talk-show maven really could pull that sort of event together, no matter how outlandish the plans.

But for now, Aniston and Winfrey are making a point of letting their public know the wedding is not gonna happen.

After Winfrey joked to her pal Monday that the $8 million didn't seem like enough for the extravagant plans she had heard about through the grapevine, the duo set to rest another recent gossip item that had Aniston moving to Chicago...to be near Winfrey, of course.

"I also heard I was helping you find a house because I wanted you near me," Winfrey said.

"Aw, that's so sweet," Aniston replied. "No, I'm good, actually. I've got my house."

She also has her protective posse. While reps for both Aniston and Vaughn have denied all of the above, sometimes it takes a little more star power to get the message across. Usually if you have Oprah in your corner, you're set, but Aniston also got a boost from Friends with Money costar Catherine Keener, who acted as an impromptu spokeswoman for her pal when a Today show reporter asked for the wedding details--if any--during an Apr. 4 interview.

"I thought you weren't going to go there--but you did," Keener told entertainment correspondent Jill Rappaport when the topic came up. Aniston mainly kept mum on the subject then, hence her current attempt to clear the air.

This is not the first time Winfrey has been on hand to talk truths with Aniston. She shared a champagne toast with Winfrey as the first guest to kick off Oprah's 20th season in September. And in addition to the inevitable chat about Jen's divorce, it was also revealed that the actress and some other friends had spent time at Winfrey's home for a girls-only gabfest.

In real-life Aniston news, the Beverly Hills mansion she shared with ex-husband Brad Pitt sold for $22.5 million last month. In happier times, the couple put about $15 million worth of work into the estate.

Some extra work was also put into Aniston's upcoming film The Break-Up, which, despite its title, is not a biopic.

Apparently, Aniston's adoring fans want to see her happily settled down--preview audiences didn't go for the comedy's original darker ending, which had the actress remaining broken up with her ex (played by Vaughn), according to the New York Post. The final scenes were reportedly reshot, making The Break-Up a little less Annie Hall and a lot more Ross 'n' Rachel.
