Ashlee Simpson steals Madonna's MTV thunder

London, Apr.13(ANI): While it's unlikely that the announcement of Madonna's world tour, scheduled for later this year, without Australian dates has anything to do with her losing on the music awards, the fact is despite being nominated in five categories, the diva has failed to win any trophies at the MTV Australian Video Music Awards.

The superstar was surprisingly beaten to the title of Best Female Artist by American pop star Ashlee Simpson, who also beat out The Veronicas to win Best Pop Video for her recent hit Boyfriend.

Singer Shannon Noll was named Best Male Artist for the second year running, reports The Sun.

The ceremony, held at Sydney's Superdome, also saw big success for the British contingent.

While ex-soldier James Blunt picked up Song Of the Year for You'e Beautiful, The Darkness beat out megastars Green Day and Foo Fighters and Wolfmother and Pete Murray for the Best Rock Video award for One Way Ticket.

Meanwhile, Green Day rounded off a fantastic 12 months by taking home the prize for Best Band.
