Ferries still popular with Taiwan people

Ferry services across the Taiwan Straits are also bracing for the rush. There are two traditional routes between the mainland and Taiwan, and extra services have been added to both ahead of the holiday.

This was first ferry to run the route between Mawei in Fujian Province and Taiwan's Mazu on Tuesday. From the early morning, people were waiting for the ferry to Mazu at the dock in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province. Although there will be direct flights connecting the mainland and Taiwan during the Spring Festival, there are none that leave from Fujian. As such, most people from Taiwan who live in Fujian still chose to travel home over sea, which saves them both time and money.
