WHO experts examine suspected SARS patient's home
( 2004-01-01 09:11) (Xinhua)

Experts with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Chinese Ministry of Health (MOH) inspected the home of a suspected SARS patient in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on Wednesday.

The experts visited a residential block in the Panyu District of Guangzhou, where the first new suspected severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) patient on the Chinese mainland was living.

They also examined a drugstore near the complex, where the patient bought medicine before he went to hospital and had close contact with the staff.

Several of the staff in the drugstore have been isolated due to close contact with the patient, sources said.

In the afternoon, the experts visited the community clinic and the patient's house.

The house's drains and sewer, disinfection procedure in the residential building and cleaning work in the block were the key target of the examination.

The experts arrived in Guangzhou on Dec. 29 and visited the suspected SARS patient, hospitals and the Guangdong Disease Control and Prevention Center on Tuesday.
