Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergenov, a rising foreign star in China's music circles, will soon be heard singing in a Chinese film.

Born in Kazakhstan in 1994, he won several awards in his country. But Kudaibergenov became known to people in China only after participating in the Hunan TV reality show, Singer 2017, in January. In two months he has gathered more than 3.3 million fans on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

Kudaibergenov has recorded the theme song in Taiwan director Leste Chen's new film, Battle of Memories, a sci-fi story set in 2025. The film's protagonist, played by veteran actor Huang Bo, accidently gets a serial killer's memory that drags him into a thrilling adventure.

Kudaibergenov sang the song at a promotional event for the film in Beijing on Thursday. "I feel so lucky," he said of his involvement in the film.

It was difficult for him to record the song as he speaks little Mandarin, but Kudaibergenov is learning the language, he added.

The song has been composed by Song Bingyang, a well-known composer, and it was written by award-wining musician Yao Ruo-long.

Since the song's video was released online on March 31, it has been watched more than 2 million times on streaming site Miaopai.

Battle of Memories will be released on the mainland on April 28.
