Twelve Beauties of Prince Yong was painted when the later Emperor Yongzheng was still a prince. The beauties in the painting are sedate, pretty against luxurious interior decoration. The women in the painting all wear beizi, a popular clothing style in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
