Beijing summit aims to boost AR/VR technology in China

A summit was held in Beijing on Tuesday to help boost cooperation and integration in the field of augmented reality and virtual reality by bringing together companies, investors and other industry players from China and the United States.

The event, called the AR/VR Global Leadership Summit, was jointly organized by the Shengjing Group, a Chinese management, consulting and private equity investment advisory firm; F50, a Silicon-Valley-based venture capital foundation and Rothenberg Ventures, a globally known investor in VR.

Overseas participants included leading hardware providers for AR/VR such as Lytro and HTC Vive.

Domestic participants included more than 50 representatives from China’s top internet platforms, cable TV platforms, game companies, film companies, start-ups in the AR/VR sector and investors.

"AR/VR is an important opportunity for next-generation technological innovation. We’d like to boost the industry and related investment in China and let the country play a leading role in the industry from the beginning," says Peng Zhiqiang, founder and chairman of the Shengjing Group, at the forum.

The forum saw discussions on the market and growth opportunities for AR/VR, and some of the latest technologies and product concepts were presented by company representatives, including Lytro CEO Jason Rosenthal.
