"The ceremony of innocence is drowned." That is the line of poetry by W.B. Yeats that echoes through chamber opera "Turn of the Screw". It's the opening show for the Stage Play Season at Beijing's China Millennium Monument.
Composed by Benjamin Britten, the piece is based on the Henry James novella of the same title. It premiered in Venice in 1954, but this is the first production in China.
The show marks the beginning of the 2015 Stage Play Season at Beijing's Millennium Monument.
Seven other shows, including plays and modern dances, are to follow. Among them are "The Imperial Express" by renowned playwright Guo Shixing, and a dance drama led by Gaoyan Jinzi.
The season runs until November.
