New trends emerge in China’s reading culture

25 percent of Chinese satisfied with reading quality

The report shows that the average reading rate and reading time in China is on the rise, in both print and digital formats. However, nearly 40 percent of respondents said they read less than they would like and 70 percent wanted local governments to organize regular reading activities.

44.1 percent of Chinese adults consider their reading relatively small, while only 2 percent believe they read a lot.

25.8 percent of Chinese felt very or quite satisfied with their reading quality, up 4.8 percentage points on 2013, while 16.3 percent expressed strong or comparative dissatisfaction, 7.2 percentage points lower than 2013.
