Art beat in March

Intimates Women is the latest production by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center. The original play is about the life of the "self-combing" women in the early 20th century. These women in the traditional communities of Guangdong province, took an oath to remain single and avoid any form of sexual activity. The play follows the stories of several women, who chose "self-combing" to pursue freedom, true love or ideals of happiness. The play is written and directed by Wang Tianchu, who believes the choice and experience of these single women is still highly relevant in today's China.
