World heritage: Old Rauma, Finland

Photo taken on June 23, 2013 shows a wooden window in Old Rauma, Finland. Situated on the Gulf of Botnia, southwest Finland, Old Rauma is the largest unified historical wooden town in the Nordic countries with an area of 28 hectares and 600 buildings. Built around a Franciscan monastery, where the mid-15th-century Holy Cross Church still stands, it is an outstanding example of an old Nordic city constructed with woods. Although ravaged by fire in the late 17th century, it has preserved its ancient appearance. Old Rauma was inscribed onto the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.[Photo/Xinhua]
