Brothers achieve internet stardom in their old age

By Ren Qi and Huo Yan in Guilin, Guangxi | China Daily | Updated: 2016-05-25 07:53

Most other people at their age would have retired to enjoy a peaceful life at a picturesque tourism spot, but Huang Quande, 87, and his 76-year-old brother, Huang Yuechuang, have found a new job that provides them with fun, a decent income and internet stardom.

Every other day or so, a group of photographers - most of them foreigners - arrive in the small county of Xingping, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, after having traveled thousands of miles for the sole purpose of taking pictures of the two men with their simple but important props: bamboo rafts and hats, palm leaf raincoats and kerosene lamps.

In April 2015, the Telegraph in the UK posted a series of photos by Russian photographer Viktoriia Rogotneva about the Huang brothers and their traditional way of hunting fish using a cormorant in the Lijiang River.
