Search area for dark matter is a very crowded arena

By Cheng Yingqi | China Daily | Updated: 2016-03-05 07:47

There's Wukong, there's PandaX and there's Cdex, sounding like a happy band of characters from a science fiction version of The Three Musketeers.

However, this 21st century tale has everything to do with science and nothing to do with fiction. Wukong, alias the Monkey King, is the name of a satellite the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched in December that will search for signs of that mysterious substance called dark matter, as well as study the origin of cosmic rays and observe gamma rays.

The search for dark matter is something that exercises the minds of scientists the world over, and it is in this endeavor that PandaX and Cdex, along with Wukong, are happy hunters.
