By Palden Nyima in Xigaze, Tibet | China Daily | Updated: 2014-07-19 06:47

A forestry program to battle desertification and improve air quality has taken root in the Tibet autonomous region.

The program is allowing farmers to literally lay the groundwork for environmental improvements that will benefit future generations, local authorities said.

The Namling Ecological Forest Zone is in Namling county in Xigaze prefecture, which lies on the northern shore of the Yarlung Zangbo River.
