Gift cards to require registrations

China Daily | Updated: 2011-03-09 07:58

BEIJING - The central government plans to require people to register their personal information when they send or use gift cards worth 10,000 yuan ($1,520) or more, a senior official has said.

The name registration system will assist authorities in the battle against corruption, deputy director of the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention Cui Hairong said.

The cards include those issued by shopping malls and prepaid phone cards, which have emerged as new forms of bribery that have proven difficult to supervise.
