Beijing's famed peaches heading for Europe

Beijing's prize peaches will soon land on grocers' shelves in Europe.

Pinggu big peaches, sold for between 10 and 20 yuan per kg in Beijing, will be shipped to 25 European countries where they will be sold for about 5 euros, or 46 yuan each, government officials said.

"After the Pinggu peach was registered as a geographical indication (GI) product, the market value of the fruit increased greatly, both at home and abroad, thereby significantly increasing the income of local farmers," Guo Lihong, an official with Pinggu district commission of commerce, said on Tuesday.
