Supervision of land transfers

China Daily | Updated: 2007-08-07 07:11

Measures should be taken to restore order in the land transfer process, says an article in China Youth Daily. The following is an excerpt:

When land is scarce, prices rise fast. The name of the most expensive land parcel, or the so-called "land king", has been updated quickly. The newest one comes from Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, with its price reaching 9.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion).

Whether these huge land transfer revenues can be timely and fully collected by the local government is still a question mark. According to reports, a land transfer is an area fraught with problems and some even say it is a hotbed of corruption. So much so that the Ministry of Land and Resources has listed it on its agenda to fight commercial bribery in the land transfer areas.
