Cote Cafe

Cote Cafe While hardly a party-hard nightspot, Cote Cafe captures the vibe of a neighborhood coffee shop without dragging berets or poetry readings into it.

It's a cozy, unpretentious cafe where a small, eclectic collection of English and Chinese books share shelves with teacups and saucers.

In addition to frothy cappuccinos, coffee from three continents, a tasteful selection of tea, and more than passable desserts, addictive personalities can mix their poison with a Bailey's or Kahlua coffee.

Coffee novices are advised to try the Hazelnut latte, a soothing nutty cupful that goes down like a tastebud massage. Pricing is reasonable for the quality (between RMB 26 and 36 for a latte).

Liquor, cigars, coffee, soft jazz recordings, and comfy little couches make Cote Cafe a laid-back joint for a sipped drink and quiet conversation-but don't drink too much; the nearest W.C. is a public toilet in an alley across the street.

Opening time: Daily 10am-midnight
Location: No. 125, Baochao Hutong, Gulou Dongdajie, Dongcheng
