Sexu Monastery of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan province has donated more than 12.5 million yuan to the earthquake-hit Yushu county in Qinghai province, the temple's living buddha Tripa Rinpoch said Friday.

The sum includes 10 million yuan, which had been planned for the renovation of the temple, and donations worth 1.27 million yuan from members of the temple's management office, according to the living buddha.

The temple had sent more than 900 monks to participate in the quake relief in Yushu, saving more than 700 people and digging out more than 1,000 bodies.

The buddha said it is the temple's responsibility to be part of the rescue efforts and he was touched by the people who assisted with quake relief.
