Premier Li Keqiang said on Wednesday that the one-China policy constitutes the political foundation of China-US relations which has remained unshaken in spite of changing circumstances, nor can this relationship be undermined.
"With that foundation in place, we believe that there are broad prospects for China-US cooperation," he told an annual news conference at the end of the annual meeting of National People's Congress.
China and the US are already engaged, the Premier said, in arranging a meeting between the top leaders of the two countries.
"I believe it is important for both countries to uphold strategic interests, sit down to talk to each other so as to enhance mutual understanding and trust," he said, "although it is true that there are some differences over issues like the exchange rate."
He said bilateral investment and trade had created nearly one million jobs for the US, and that the two nations should look and move forward despite challenges in the ties.
