After graduating from college in 2016, Jiwu Erluo got an opportunity to work in Xichang. But she decided to stay in Atuleer village to be a kindergarten teacher when the provincial government rolled out a policy to set up one preschool in each impoverished village.
The preschool is set up at the couple's home. When it opened, there were only a couple of students.
Jiwu Erluo visited villagers' homes one by one to persuade parents to send their kids to the school. With her persistent efforts, all 30 school age children now study at the village's kindergarten.
Teaching was also a headache in the beginning, when Jiwu found the children could not speak Mandarin and could not understand what she said.
