CHENGDU -- Vegetables grown in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will be served in Hong Kong in October, according to Litang county government Tuesday.

Situated in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Garze at an elevation of over 4,000 meters, Litang has lush green vegetation, clean glacier water and no pollution. It uses animal dung to replace chemical fertilizer and leaves the land fallow in certain seasons to guarantee quality produce.

In recent years, with the help of agricultural institutions and universities in Sichuan, Litang has grown more than 13 kinds of vegetable in 333 hectares of land. The produce has passed quality certification for Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and many Southeast Asian countries.

In early October, baby Chinese cabbages grown in a 13 hectare area of Litang will be delivered to Hong Kong. All the produce is traceable.

The county is also dedicated to agricultural science and creating a cold-chain transport to push forward supply-side reform in highland agriculture.
