TAIPEI -- All six candidates have submitted sufficient valid signatures to qualify as candidates to run for the party chair of Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party on May 20, the KMT party election committee confirmed Friday.

The six candidates are the incumbent KMT chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu and vice chairman Hau Lung-bin, former deputy leader of Taiwan Wu Den-yih, former KMT Vice Chairman Steve Chan, former legislator Pan Wei-kang as well as former legislator Han Kuo-yu.

Each candidate has collected more than 13,322 eligible signatures, or three percent of the Kuomintang membership, as required to qualify for the election.

As per the party charter, a candidate wins the election with more than half the votes; otherwise, the top two candidates contest a second round.
