BEIJING - China is currently in the middle of its Tomb-sweeping Day holiday travel rush, with daily rail traffic hitting a record high.

China Railway, the national railway operator, said Monday that it transported 12.68 million passengers on April 2, an increase of 10.1 percent from a year ago, a record high for the Tomb-sweeping Day holidays.

Some 9.84 million passengers traveled by train on April 3. The railway operator added 399 more trains to meet demand.

Tomb-sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival, is the most important occasion for Chinese to honor their ancestors. The three-day holiday spans from April 2 to 4.
