"The impressive Institute of Advanced Technology introduced us to many cutting-edge technologies that will transform lives," said Colin Speakman, a Shanghai-based China expert from UK. "Diabetes, a disease that is far too prevalent in many advanced societies, including China, could soon be much easier to manage. From requiring several injections daily, it could be treated by a simple pill taken three times a week. "

Co-hosted by Hefei municipal government and CRI (China Radio International) online, the event attracted 15 foreign experts representing different nations including Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Greece, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Jordan and Vietnam.

This comes as the capital city of Anhui is committed to transforming itself into a Chinese "Silicon Valley", with the aim to become a national innovation hub in five to 10 years.

"Innovation involves competition but globalization brings cooperation. Hefei is an excellent example of this trend and destined to support many developments that will improve our lives," said Speakman.

"I think both Chinese and German economies are strong, and both countries share similar goals in their industrial plans, namely China's 'Made in China 2025' and Germany's 'Industry 4.0'", added Borchmann.

"My recommendation is that Hefei should be more open to other Chinese cities who also have strong economic development, so the city could establish more contacts with the outside world."
