The curtain of the 16th Western China International Fair fell in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Monday.

The 12-day fair witnessed the signing of 1,008 investment and co-operation projects worth more than 787 billion yuan ($115 billion), according to Zhao Weiping, deputy secretary-general of the Sichuan provincial government.

Drawing more than 60,000 people from 91 countries and regions, the fair attracted 9,027 enterprises, with 2,347 from outside China, Zhao said.

The fair highlighted elements of China's Belt and Road Initiative. Four halls featuring the initiative were set up. Belt and Road themed forums and activities were also be held.

Debuting in 2000 for the implementation of the central government's "Go west" strategy, the fair picked Chengdu as its permanent site.

In March last year, the event was listed as one of the 10 major national exhibitions (conventions) to facilitate the Belt and Road Initiative.
