High pay for child's play
A new profession in China of playing with children in parks proves to be quite rewarding.
Zheng Wei just graduated with a bachelor degree in preschool education, his job now is to play with 30 children aged from three to five years old in a park in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province.
Taking children out to a park simply to play games with other children is becoming more of a trend for Chinese parents.
Zheng Wei is just one the 'walking children teachers' available for hire in Wuhan. Zheng also provides them with tasks in order to improve interaction between the children.
This activity has stemmed from the One Child Policy, a generation of children without brothers and sisters in China.
Parents hope their children can spend more time outdoors playing with other children.
Long Feng, another teacher, explains that as most parents are busy with work, and it is an opportunity for their children to play with each other than stay at home and play electronic devices.
What's more, teachers, based on their work experience and how well the children get along with them, can earn more than 10,000 yuan (1,4800 USD) a month, that's much higher than the average salary for public school teachers in China.
Walking children teachers emerged two years ago in Wuhan and most teachers are professional in preschool education and sports, said Feng Tingting of a walking children agency.
Teachers are also required to know basic first aid. Long Feng said she will buy insurance for each child before the activities and have a first aid kit with her at all times.
