BEIJING -- China held its first comprehensive nuclear security emergency drill on Saturday, to test and improve its security-incident response mechanism, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.
Code-named "Fengbao-2016," the drill, which was neither scripted nor had a preplanned result, tested the effectiveness of the nuclear security system, said the administration.
The drill was presided over by Wang Yiren, vice director of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and vice-chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority.
Representatives from central government agencies, local governments and China National Nuclear Corp. observed the drill, the administration added.
