Bribery threshold

Li Dajin, national legislator and lawyer from Beijing, said in a proposal tabled to the National People's Congress (NPC) that 5,000 yuan ($798) should remain the threshold for filing of criminal charges against officials in bribery cases.

A draft amendment in criminal law being reviewed by the standing committee of the NPC plans to eliminate the exact figure in the filing of criminal charges. It proposed China's Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate to issue legal view on the matter, or allow judicial bodies to decide case by case.

Under the current law, officials who accept bribe of more than 5,000 yuan are subject to criminal prosecution.
