China wants to join hands with other nations to make the international order more steady in the right direction, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday.

"I want to make it very clear that China has always been a constructive force in building the international order," Wang said.

Wang made the remarks at a news conference in Beijing on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations. In 1945, China was the first country to put its signature on the UN Charter, the foundational treaty of the organization.

Wang compared the international order built around the UN to a boat and said that China actively participated in the design and building of the boat.

"We are in this boat with more than 190 other countries. Of course we don't want to upset the boat. Rather, we want to work with other passengers to make sure the boat moves steadily and in the right direction," Wang said.
