Rare relics from Shaanxi shown in Shanghai

An exhibition of rare relics from Baoji, Shaanxi province, opened on Wednesday at the Shanghai Museum and will run until March 1, 2015.

As part of the main activities to celebrate the 16th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, which is being held from Nov 12 to 17, the Shaanxi provincial administration of cultural heritage and the Baoji cultural heritage and tourism bureau sent 115 rare relics unearthed in Baoji from the aristocracy tombs of the Western Zhou Dynasty (c. 11th century-771 BC) to link with the Shaanxi cultural week of the festival, said Ren Zhoufang, director of the Baoji cultural heritage and tourism bureau.

"Baoji, the second-largest city in Shaanxi province, used to be the capital of the Western Zhou Dynasty and has a large number of ancient relics under and around the city. The 115 relics for display were all made of bronze in the Western Zhou Dynasty," Ren said.

Shaanxi is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization and 14 dynasties built their capital there over a period of more than 1,200 years, and left many rare relics behind.
