An 8-year-old girl in Chongqing municipality born with 12 fingers and 15 toes, making her unable to wear normal shoes, finally had the extra digits removed on Aug 11, Chongqing Morning News reported on Wednesday.
The girl's mother, Liu Huilan, said her daughter was born in 2006 with six fingers on each hand, eight toes on her left foot and seven on her right foot. Because they were poor, her parents did not take their daughter to see a doctor and, as she grew, they had difficulties finding suitable shoes for the girl. "I had to make shoes for her by myself, and from her age of 4 she had to wear the big shoes of her sister who is 10 years older than her. But now even her sister's shoes will not fit her," Liu said.
On Aug 8, the parents took the girl to the city's children's hospital and doctors there operated on Aug 11 to cut off the extra fingers and toes.
Doctors say the girl needs several other operations as they found she has many other abnormalities.
