An 11-year-old boy in Handan, Hebei province, donated his hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) twice to his mother, who suffers from severe acute obstructive anemia, the Hebei-based Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported on Friday.
The young donor, Li Ang, wanted to give his mother a second life after she got sick.
Bone marrow transplantation was the best cure for Li's mother, which required instant HSC supply. Li was the only eligible donor in his family.
The first stage of his mother's operation was performed successfully, thanks to the stem cells Li supplied.
