Tibet women account for 37% of workforce
Tibet has 707,000 employed women, accounting for 37 percent of the autonomous region's workforce.
Gyaltso Lhamu, chairwoman of the Tibetan Women's Federation, delivered the news in a report to the region's ninth women's congress, held in Lhasa on Monday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the congress, she said, “All walks of life are encouraged to support the development of work concerning women and children.”
Three hundred fifteen deputies attended the two-day congress.
The report showed that women in rural areas account for more than 60 percent of the laborers in the countryside.
Currently, 57 percent of provincial and prefectural government departments have female officers. The percentage is 93 percent at county level departments.
