NetEase Inc, a major web portal, published a list of the top 500 financial institutions in China in 2012 on Wednesday. Their total assets were worth an estimated 129.84 trillion yuan ($20.9 trillion), up 17 percent from 2011.
The list shows that banks and trust companies are growing while insurers and securities are shrinking. The 215 banks, 38 more than last year, have 118.28 trillion yuan in combined assets, which account for 91.1 percent of the total assets of the listed 500 companies.
The trust companies that have made it on the list possess 205.9 billion yuan in assets, up 20.55 percent from the previous year.
However, insurers’ proportion in assets decreased to 6.41 percent from 6.52 percent last year. Nine registered negative growth compared with 2011.
Meanwhile, the number of securities decreased by five, and nearly one third saw their assets shrink compared with 2011.
