Cancel airport fee, says NPC deputy

The 50-yuan per passenger airport construction fee that has been collected at all Chinese airports for two decades should be cancelled, said Ye Qing, deputy-director of the Hubei provincial bureau of statistics and a deputy to the National People's Congress.

The airport construction fee was set up in 1992 to raise funds for airport construction, fire-fighting equipment, security equipment and other safety measures, according to Ye.

With China's increasing economic development, the government should consider canceling the fee, which contributes little in terms of revenues, Ye said.
