Writer Zhang Kangkang, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice-chairwoman of the Chinese Writers Association, proposed that amending China's Copyright Law should be listed as soon as possible in next year's legislative agenda, people.com.cn reported.
Zhang said that the defects and shortcomings of the existing Copyright Law, which was implemented in 1991, have become apparent with the rapid development of network technology and the growing popularity of digital reading. Internet piracy and copyright infringement have become rampant, she said. So the law should be amended as soon as possible to strengthen protection of intellectual property.
