BEIJING - China's top political advisory body on Monday commemorated the 146th anniversary of the birthday of Sun Yat-sen, the father of the country's democratic revolution and a revered revolutionary leader who played a pivotal role in overthrowing imperial rule in China.

A commemoration ceremony was held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) at Zhongshan Park in downtown Beijing.

Representatives of the CPPCC National Committee, the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) Central Committee, the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Beijing municipal government presented flowers and bowed in front of a statue of Sun Yat-sen.

Born on November 12, 1866 in Xiangshan county (now known as the city of Zhongshan) in South China's Guangdong province, Sun is known for his leading role during the 1911 Revolution, which overthrew the imperial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and put an end to more than 2,000 years of feudal rule in China.
