President Hu Jintao urged Thursday the BRICS countries to deepen political trust and strengthen equal consultation while addressing the annual bloc summit.

During the summit, the leaders of China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa will have in-depth discussions on global economic management, sustainable development and cooperation among the five BRICS countries on the theme "Partnership for Stability, Security and Prosperity".

On the summit, Hu urged five countries to "stay committed to consultation on an equal footing and deepen political trust".

Acknowledging that the BRICS countries are important forces for regional and world peace and stability, Hu urged the bloc to "enhance political mutual trust through dialogue and exchanges, fully accommodate each others' major interests and concerns, set a good example of mutual respect and equal-footed consultation in the international community, and be good friends and good partners forever."

According to Hu, on issues where there is consensus, BRICS should move them forward with vigorous cooperation.

"For those issues where there is currently no consensus, BRICS should take incremental steps to build up conditions for cooperation," Hu told his counterparts from the other four countries.

The BRICS countries account for 40% of the world's population, nearly 20% of the global economy, and 15% of international trade.

Hu also urged the bloc countries to stay committed to practical cooperation and firm up the basis for cooperation.

According to Hu, the BRICS countries should see their different national conditions and development models as providing an opportunity for them to draw on each other's strengths and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation.

We should follow through on the consensus to step up consultation and cooperation among our fiscal and financial authorities, and take solid steps to enhance existing cooperation and build up flagship projects, said Hu.

"At the same time, we should further tap the potential and enrich the content of our cooperation."

Hu also urged the bloc to stay committed to international cooperation and promote the development of the whole world.

"We should endeavor to move forward global economic governance reform and increase the representation and voice of emerging markets and developing countries," said Hu.

We should intensify communication and coordination in international economic, financial, trade and development fields, and jointly promote strong, sustainable and balanced growth of the world economy, said Hu.
