BEIJING - A Chinese legislature official on Thursday denied that the draft amendment to the Criminal Procedure Law allows secret detention, saying "there are no secret detentions in China or any legal stipulations on it."
Lang Sheng, vice-director of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks at a press confession on the sidelines of the ongoing NPC annual session.
The draft amendment to the Criminal Procedure Law was submitted to the ongoing national legislative session Thursday for third reading, incorporating the principle of respecting and safeguarding human rights.
