BEIJING - China is opposed to any party taking unilateral action in disputed waters in the East China Sea, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Monday at a regular press briefing.
He made the statement in response to a media request to confirm an allegation made by Japan Coast Guard that a Chinese surveillance ship recently sent a warning to a Japanese survey boat in the East China Sea.
Hong said China's position on the East China Sea issue is clear and consistent.
"We have noticed the relevant report," Hong said. "China hopes to make joint efforts with Japan to properly handle relevant issues and safeguard the stability of the East China Sea and the two countries' overall relations."
