BEIJING - Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region aims to have all road transport vehicles in the region powered by liquefied or compressed natural gas in two years.
The authorities will also promote the use of new-energy-powered cars to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, said Gao Jianghuai, deputy director of the bureau of transportation of Xinjiang regional government.
The petroleum consumption in the transport sector accounted for 30 percent of the total non-industrial petroleum consumption in Xinjiang, he said. Only about 100 trucks and less than 10 percent of the passenger vehicles in Xinjiang are running on liquefied or compressed natural gas.
