BEIJING - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told his Australian counterpart Julia Gillard on Tuesday that China highly values its relations with Australia and views the country as an "important partner in mutually beneficial cooperation".

Wen made the remarks during his talks with Gillard, who is on a four-day official visit to China.

Wen said he believes Gillard's visit will further promote cooperation between the two countries.

Gillard said Australia is grateful for China's timely aid in the aftermath of floods in the state of Queensland last year.

Gillard arrived in Beijing on Monday for her first visit to China as prime minister since she took office in June 2010.
