BEIJING - The relief supplies are adequate for mudslides-devastated Zhouqu county in Northwest China's Gansu province, said an official from the Ministry of Civil Affairs Wednesday.
As of 4 pm Tuesday, central and local governments have sent 30,000 tents, 100,000 quilts, 100,000 cotton coats, 5,000 sleeping bags, 8,000 folding beds, and 180,000 package of instant food, said Zhang Weixing, deputy director of the ministry's disaster relief bureau, at a press conference.
Of the above, 7,038 tents, 20,000 quilts, 2,000 cotton coats, 5,000 sleeping bags, 8,000 folding beds, 49,000 packages of instant food, 56,000 packages of mineral water, 230 electricity generators, and the 5,000 kilos of flour, had arrived in Zhouqu as of Wednesday noon, according to Zhang.
Local government has set up three delivery stations in Zhouqu and assigned four nearby towns of Zhouqu as transfer centers for the supplies, Zhang said.
The death toll from massive rain-triggered mudslides in Zhouqu has risen to 702, with 1,042 others still missing, local civil affairs authorities said Tuesday afternoon.
