Quake hits sea off Taiwan's Hualien county

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale hit the sea off Taiwan's Hualien county at 9:08 pm Beijing Time Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 24.1 degrees north latitude and 122.4 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 8 kilometers, the center said.

This is the second tremor hit the island this week. A magnitude-4.9 earthquake hit the border area of Taiwan's Tainan county and Chiayi county on Monday.
