Widespread rainfall forecast for China in coming days

BEIJING -- Widespread rainfall is expected for China over the next three days, and regions in the country's southeast will experience rainstorms as typhoon Fanapi approaches, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast Saturday.

Light rain or showers were forecast for much regions in western China, northern and northeastern China as well as areas south of the Yangtze River during the next three days, the NMC said.

Some regions in Taiwan and Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hebei provinces would see heavy rain or rainstorms, the observatory said.

It warned torrential rains, strong winds and high waves in Taiwan and the mainland's southeastern part were likely as Fanapi approached.

Fanapi will be the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year and is expected to make landfall over the east coast of Taiwan Sunday morning and reach the mainland Sunday night or Monday morning.
