A five-star hotel near the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, a well-known scenic spot in Tibet, will be built in two years to help visitors better enjoy the sights, xinhuanet.com reported on Wednesday.

Liu Jianyun, vice president of Tibet Tourism Co Ltd, announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the project, with a total investment of about 100 million yuan ($14.7 million), has been approved and the design was finished. It will be done in two phases. After the first-phase construction, 150 guest rooms with an accommodation of about 300 people will be put into use.

"Although the hotel will be located in a village that sits at the entrance part instead of at the center of the scenic area, we will still insist on making the hotel low-carbon and environment-friendly in the process of construction and in future management," said Liu.

The hotel will enable more visitors to stay longer and better enjoy the dramatic sights of the Grand Canyon, one of the largest in the world. It will also have the capacity to host meetings, to become an international convention center.
