Nine dead in coal mine fire in NW China

XI'AN - A coal mine fire in northwest China's Shaanxi province has killed nine people and injured another, according to the provincial government Friday.

Twenty-seven miners were working underground when the fire occurred at around 7: 00 pm Thursday in the Quanzigou Coal Mine in Longmen township, Hancheng city. Among them, 17 were lifted safely to the ground, a government official said.

The injured miner has been rushed to hospital.
